Welcome to Capt’n Chucky’s

Trappe and Colmar

Retail Stores

Capt'n chuckys Colmar & Trappe

Owners: Manny and Janice Heckman

The Trappe, Blue Bell and Colmar Capt’n Chucky locations were originally owned and operated by the Heckman and Zakowicz families. Tom and Lois Zakowicz along with Manny and Janice Heckman spent many years serving customers and making new friends. Tom Zakowicz, Manny and Janice spent many years together working in the restaurant industry, including an instrumental role in starting the Applebee’s and Boston Market restaurants in the Philadelphia area.

Our Capt’n Chucky venture began when Lois’ brother, Jesse Taggart, mentioned that his neighbor in Rock Hall, Md., Chuck (Capt’n Chucky himself!), has a store in Newtown Square, PA, selling a full line of homemade crab cakes, soups, chowder’s and many other delights. We got together, visited with Chuck and tried all the product, the rest is history! We loved the product so much, we decided to open some stores and get these delicious crab cakes out to the rest of the world!

We opened our first store in Trappe, Pa. in the spring of 2010, our Blue Bell store that summer and our Colmar location in March of 2013. The same week of our Colmar opening, we lost our dear friend and business partner, Tom. His wife Lois and daughter Alex took over the Blue Bell location and worked very hard to “fill his very big shoes”. We love Tom and miss him dearly, but know he would be very proud of how hard his girls worked since his passing. In the fall of 2014, Lois decided to retire and sell the Blue Bell location. Manny, Janice and family can be found serving customers in the Trappe and Colmar locations on any given day. As you can see from the menu, we are best known for the wonderful crab cakes, but offer much more. We are constantly working on new recipes and menu items and hope to always keep it fresh and exciting as the years pass by.

Our mission is simple – we strive every day to serve the highest quality product at the lowest possible price! We love serving people and look forward to meeting new customers every day, while spending time with our regulars who have now become our friends. Our goal is that everyone enters our store as a customer and leaves as a friend!

We look forward to seeing you in our Trappe and Colmar locations very soon!

In loving memory of Tom (Zak) Zakowicz 6/14/49 – 3/12/13
